Reader Appreciation

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
I don't think I mention enough how wonderful my readers are. A diverse group for sure, but lately you've been coming out of the woodwork, leaving comments, letting me explore your blogs many of which make me laugh. A lot.  And those of you without a blog that still stop by and leave the nicest comments and often cheer me up when I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed or under the weather...well you are wonderful. But I have to take a moment to point out two particularly fabulous readers. I do have to preface this though....because although these readers were wonderful and sent me a little something, this isn't a cry for packages & gifts. Rather, I feel as though they were so thoughtful and kind that they deserved some recognition. So lets all take a moment to realize, I'm not fishing (phishing?) for any gifts or presents. That would be crass. And tacky. Neither of which is an adjective I go for. Moving right along.....

Erin, from Atlanta took a moment to send me a fabulous Atlanta Starbucks mug. Behold:

My parents were recently in town and I proudly showed them my New Orleans mug & Atlanta mug, (both of which I totally caught my Dad trying to slip into his suitcase), with which my Mom wanted to know how these bloggers had my mailing address. And so I told her that I gave them to these readers who emailed me. And she is now certain that Erin from Atlanta is a serial killer, so then I showed her the kind hand written note it came with and her return address which is about 5 minutes from my Aunt & Uncle in Atlanta, and my Mother calmed down. And determined that Erin was just lovely. I'm currently enjoying a cup of tea out of the NOLA mug, while my Atlanta mug sits in the dishwasher from my tea from yesterday. Which, incidentally, for all you tea lovers out there, might I suggest placing an order for Emperor's Bride (a black spiced tea, heavenly) from The Tea Room? I give tins of it for Christmas every year, and it is always a hit. And Erin? I'm totally up for cocktails next time I'm in town!

Then Grace from Law With Grace noticed my pining for a Le Creuset and informed me she had one of "those stupid heavy things you have on your blog." And that she hated it and didn't want it and that she was planning on throwing it away, so did I want it? I cried a little tear of sadness for Grace's culinary state, and then demanded she bring me the dutch oven to be rescued & brought into its full glory. So, behold:

I have not decided what to make in it first...suggestions? (Pictured behind it, a box of cupcakes, my sad coffee pot, my Kitchenaid mixer, the knife collection, and some olive oil. Just the usual crowd of stuff at Casa de Duke.)

Also, just because I was photographing in my kitchen, I'm making red beans & rice for dinner...here they are, pre-boil down to creamy goodness:

And I should apparently clean out the right burner a smidge bit better this evening. Oops. I'm sure you are so glad I'm sharing my disastrous kitchen with you right about now. I cannot wait to move and have, I don't know, some counter space?

Tomorrow we have a wonderful Reader's Poll, that I solemnly swear will be posted on MONDAY. A modern day miracle, I know.
