It has been a while since I posted about the iPhone, and since a couple of people have recently asked me if my love for it has grown, and what apps I cannot live without, I thought a brief post was needed.
My love has indeed grown. There are still issues with it: taking photos is still a huge phaff; battery life is still brutally brief; the lack of cut and paste annoying; the consistency (or lack of) of allowing pages/apps to display in portrait mode. The list really does go on … and on …
BUT, and (Sir Mix-a-Lot would certainly approve) it’s a big but, this is still great fun. The latest fixes seem to have cured most of the apps crashing and the call dropping issues that were happening before.
I’m not an app mad person, so I have not added a whole lot to the phone and have removed quite a lot very quickly. However, there are a number that I use daily, or at least once a week.
Twittelator - My preferred iPhone Twitter client. Twitteriffic looks a bit better, but until Hahlo develop an iPhone app, Twittelator is much the better app to actually use. it’s one downside is the number of tweets it displays.
Facebook - The iPhone app for Facebook is really quite wonderful, and if anything has revitalised my initial love affair with Facebook.
LinkedIN - Whilst this is not as nice or user friendly as the facebook app, this is perfectly functional and l like the way it lists your connections/contacts.
Evernote - One of my favourite desktop/online products of the last 2 years. Really great for making notes, and with iphone photo image capture, now even better.
Funambol - For those that cannot be arsed signing up to mobileme, or are PC owner, this is a promising little app for mobile sync of contact information
DLR Times - If you use London’s DLR system like I do, this little app that gives you an update on the times that the next trains are expected at the stations is quite nifty.
IFooty - Pulls in its data from the BBC, but is a great way to keep up with your football teams news, results, and league table position (they had to pull the fixture information, sadly)
Othello - iPhone version of the board game. loved it as a child, and still fun - infuriating to play.
Chopper - a fun game utilising accelerometer (tilting the iPhone). Paid for this one when it was on sale and cheap. Nothing mindblowing, but passes the time.
Big Bang - This is a collection of classic board games, such as Chess, Drafts(Checkers) and my personal favourite Backgammon (which I am currently playing several times a day)
Box.net - Online file storage site. If have account can view any docs, pics, etc have stored online - can also play any music you may have stored too, which is nice. You can apparently also view pdf files, although yet to try that one out.
LastFM - I have to confess , I am not really using it to listen to music that often, but works quite well, and UI is fairly useable.
Last thing downloaded? Lux Touch - a game which is supposed to be a bit like the boardgame Risk. have not had time to play yet, so no idea if is any good or not.
