: The Faculty LoungeFlatt From University of Houston to UNC
By propertyprof
I'm in DC for the AALS hiring conference--very much looking forward to meeting lots of people and making new friends, as well as seeing a bunch of old ones. (Had a wonderful drive up 95--the fall colors are out in full force. The trees are absolutely beautiful--reminds me of why the Hudson River School was so successful. They had such beautiful colors and light to work with.) I'm always inspired by the thoughtfulness of people I meet at the conference and I'm sure I'll return from the conference with new inspiration. I'm also looking forward to blogging a bit on Senator McCain's campaign (and in particular his taking the high road on issues of race), as well as what "Obama jurisprudence" will look like. That is, what the jurisprudence of judges appointed by Obama--on the lower federal courts even more than the US Supreme Court--will be like. I suspect it'll be similar to the jurisprudence of the Great Society jurists, lots of considerations of equity and inclusion. Maybe it'll be worth it to go back and look again at the syllabus of his course on race and law at the University of Chicago Law School. But I don't have time to put all of this together--and I have some good news that I want to announce:
Following on the news of Bob Mosteller moving to UNC from Duke, I'm pleased to report that Victor Flatt is also joining us next year from the University of Houston. Victor will be the inaugural Tom and Elizabeth Taft Distinguished Professor of Environmental Law. UNC's press release is here. Everyone in Chapel Hill is most pleased by this news; and we're looking forward to some more good news this year.
