Big Dog, Little Dog

ADVERTISEMENTS
Dear K,

One of our favorite books is Big Dog, Little Dog. We have read it countless times since you were born, just like Grandma used to read it to Daddy when he was a little boy.

But this weekend, when we read Big Dog, Little Dog, you became fixated on two words: TUBA and IDEA.

You have always been fascinated by horns, for some reason. As a result of your TUBA interest this weekend, you can now identify by sight a tuba, a trumpet, and a trombone. You're also familiar with cornets, bugles, and saxophones. You know the sounds all of these instruments make and have heard them all played individually and in groups, courtesy of YouTube. I bet there aren't many 20-month olds who have heard of a cornet!

As for IDEA, there are two characters with IDEAs in this book (which is pretty good, considering there are only three characters total) and you kept flipping past the other pages to get to the IDEAs. When we got to the bird, who was busy listening to Fred and Ted's dilemma and scratching his head, I asked you what the bird was doing. "Hmm... 'DEA!"

I have an idea. We should both learn to play a different type of horn and have a family band! I'll play the trumpet and you play trombone, okay? Tubas are too heavy.

Love,
Mommy
