: Des Moines Personal Injury LawyerFood Safety: Melamine contamination stirs emotions
By Steve Lombardi
Nearly 53,000 children sickened and four dead from melamine contaminated baby formula. Does culture matter when it comes to regulatory standards? Obviously American lenders and stock syndications have no room to point a finger. World over consumers from every country in the world are reading and rereading labels and looking to see if the ingredients contain dairy products or byproducts and then for assurances the product wasn’t “Made in China”. It leads consumers to ask if cultural differences for whatever reason might approach food and product safety issues in such different ways. And if so is there government’s infrastructure far enough behind our own that something else needs to be done to protect us.
Added to the list of foods contaminated with melamine are the following.
Lipton Milk Tea sold in Hong Kong and Macau. Unilever is the owner.
Instant coffee and milk tea products sold in the United States under the name Mr. Brown, King Car Food Industrial Company, Taiwan.
White Rabbit Creamy Candy, make is Guanshengyuan.
Heinz cereal and wasabi crackers, Hong Kong.
