High School for "Adults"

ADVERTISEMENTS
A post by Kel over at A Woman in Law School today reminded me of the shock/horror/and somewhat amusing realizations I came to during my own 1L experience. Right after reading that post I hopped on over to Virgin in the Volcano and noticed her great quote on her blog: "Good lord. A pack of cigs and a pregnancy scare and this could be high school."

Law School (especially 1st year) really is nothing more than high school for "adults" (and I use the term "adults" very loosely here). Thankfully though, I have noticed that recently I haven't really complained about the high schoolish elements of law school, perhaps because as law school as gone on that element has finally gone away (or maybe I've finally just learned to ignore it).

Nevertheless, after a short trip down memory lane, I found some of my own musings during my first year about the Law School = High School phenomena:

First realization that Law School = High School

Law Bitches comment on the similarities between Law School and High School

I am happy to report that 2nd and 3rd year of law school, at least for me, have been MUCH better. There really is no comparision in fact. Those who made life miserable during first year have miraculously disappeared and the rest of us who are fairly normal adults (as normal as you can be in law school) have been left to bond over casual beers while engaging in somewhat intellecutal conversations and plenty of laughs. Thank goodness!!

Hang in there 1Ls- if my experience is at all similar to anyone else's, then I can finally say there really is a light at the end of the tunnel!
