: ACS BlogHigh Court Declines Review Of Georgia Death Penalty Sentencing Law
The U.S. Supreme Court today declined review of a case, Walker v. Georgia, involving whether Georgia’s death sentencing law violates the 8th Amendment by not ensuring “meaningful proportionality review.” The high court also agreed to hear Flores-Figueroa v. U.S., a case dealing with the proof that federal prosecutors must present in attaining a greater punishment for identity theft. For more commentary on the high court’s actions today, see Scotusblog. The high court’s calendar for the October Term is available here. No arguments are set for this week; a conference day is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 31.
