: Legally Blonde AmbitionA Poll! Of a New Variety!
By "Daisy Duke"
ADVERTISEMENTS
It is Monday morning which means it is time for a Monday Morning Reader's Poll. However we are stepping away from wedding-etiquette today and moving on to another and much more pressing topic. Bar Results & The Dissemination of Your Pass or Failure
First I shall explain the dilemma:
After three years of law school, of competing with the same people for the top 10% (which incidentally, to all you new-law-schoolers out there, let me remind you that 90% of you can't be in that club), of vying for CALI awards (top mark in the class overall), and just, well competing....... we have this final test. And people want to know who passed and who didn't. But after three years of keeping grades a somewhat guarded secret, we have no protocol for the sharing of these trials & tribulations. So now what? How do we spread without seeming like we are gloating? If we don't spread the news, will it be assumed that we failed? If we did fail...ack, then what???
So as discussed with my friends, the options are many. Lets vote:
A. Send a mass email. Gets the point out. Can be seen as crass/bragging/whining/a pain in your friend's already overflowing inbox.
B. Facebook status/Gmail message/Twitter announcement to the masses. Could also be a smack in the face to the friend/follower who didn't pass and was just logging into their email/Facebook/Twitter to try and tell themselves life will go on...or conversely, make all of your friends pity your tragic self.
C. Don't tell anyone other than your close friends and assume that the word will get out. If not, they will see you at the swearing-in (or not).... your name will show up in the Chicago Law Bulletin next month (or not).... and there you have it. Cuts down on the congratulations or consolation but it is efficient.
D. Set a bar to meet at on Wednesday night. If you are there, you passed. If you aren't, you didn't. I think this leads the door open to simply not going for a variety of other reasons only to have shots taken in your memoriam.
E. Something I have not thought of. Impossible I say. Or very likely. Whatever.
