Letterman Suddenly Relevant Again

Here's the video of Letterman sticking it to McCain for canceling his appearance on the show tonight.

Two thoughts:

(1) Since when is Letterman funny? I've watched sporadic episodes for the last 10 years and found the comedy painful, repetitive, and cheap. This was really good though.

(2) The opening part about McCain being a hero is really good, and makes the rest of the comments sting a little more. Letterman is no Republican. But he appears to have a special regard for McCain, specifically. Which we can assume is mostly gone now.

Just saw the Craig Ferguson opening: "One of our guests canceled on us tonight. Keith Olbermann will not be here."

My favorite line from Letterman:

"We're told that Senator McCain has finished his interview with Katie Couric. And he's now on Rachel Ray making veal piccata."
