: Fight The HypoLaw School as Excuse
By Casebook Sherpa
No real substance to write about at the moment. It’s been several weeks now of serious FTH writer’s block for me. Just can’t seem to focus my thoughts and energies enough to write something that (a) makes sense (b) actually says something and (c) doesn’t sound like whining about being back in class (because, frankly, I enjoy being back).
What I’ve done over the last few weeks is assess my goals for law school. I was pleasantly suprised when I opened up the file on my computer called “goals for law school” to find that I had met most of my first year goals. (Granted, they were more discipline focused than outcome related, i.e. goals of the “develop and master a means of briefing cases that maximizes both efficiency and mastery” variety.)
This year, I need to add a goal. I’m just not sure how I’ll do it. I’m busier, so far, than I was last year. But I really need to, and want to, invest in my friendships. I realized that there are several very good friends that I have literally not even e-mailed with in a year. (!!!) I rationalized this by saying, “Well I am in law school.” Wrong answer.
Those who really know me would not be surprised by that statement, since I get pretty consumed with my life where I am and I’m an introvert by nature who finds it easy to get lost in studies and personal pursuits. But these are people I do care about and want to stay connected to. So, I’ve added to my list: “Call Person X, Person Y, and Person Z once a month over the course of this year for no other reason than to just catch up.”
What are your goals this year?
