ADVERTISEMENTS
Dear K,

You are a year and a half old! And you are a wonderful little boy, funny and curious and charming.

This weekend you had a visit from your Aunt CT. You took to her immediately. Usually you take a few minutes to warm up, even with close relatives. She chased you around all weekend, and after she left you talked about her for hours.

Here are some things you learned this weekend:
Warm and cool are in between hot and cold.
When a dog sees the moon, it howls, "Awooooo!"
Food is not a hat. It goes in your mouth. When you put food on your head, your hair gets dirty.

And here are some of your recent habits:
Sticking your face in the tub and blowing bubbles.
Patting my shoulder while saying, "Pat, pat, pat."
Saying no only when you really mean no. Pausing, then saying, "Yeah" and nodding vigorously when you have no idea what I'm talking about.
Holding up your hand and saying "Stop" at a red light, and "Go!" when the light turns green.
When you're resisting something you know you shouldn't be doing, you stop and shake your head. If you're in the middle of something you know you shouldn't be doing, you'll get my attention by waving and saying, "Hi!"
Old McDonald had a farm... "E, Ooh, E, Ooh, Egg!"

Today you actually played by yourself for long enough stretches that I got some reading done. Every few minutes, you would come over and climb into my lap to make sure I was still paying attention to you, and once in a while I'd go over and play trains. It was perfect. You really are getting older, kid. You don't need my constant supervision anymore. Before I know it you'll be off to school and bringing home friends you made yourself and joining the soccer team. So I'll enjoy the days of washing corn out of your hair and playing peekaboo while they last.

Love,
Mommy
