This that or the other
Prison numbers could rise by 15%
The BBC is reporting: "The prison population in England and Wales could rise to 95,800 by 2015, the Ministry of Justice has said".
The prison numbers game. Take your pick. What's it going to be in 2015?
1. 95,800
2. 89,700
3. 83,400
Oddly, "Prisons Minister David Hanson said the government's prison building and renovation plans would see capacity rise to more than 96,000 by 2014".
So, that's now 4 sets of numbers instead of the above announced 3.
""We will always ensure we have enough prison places for those offenders who need to be locked up," he said.
"Overcrowding has seen more than 34,000 prisoners released early since summer 2007". However, for years the actual amount of overcrowding has been manipulated by cramming two and in some cases three prisoners into cells designed for one. How many of those released early have since returned? And, does the Ministry of Justice intend to scrap the disastrous plan to build Titan prisons?
