: Legal Pad | LAAguirre pays $1,500 for campaign consultants' misdeeds
By Jason Siegel
City Attorney Michael Aguirre agreed to pay a $1,500 fine because his campaign consultant asked 133 city employees for donations for his 2008 campaign, 10 News reported (here).
The San Diego Ethics Commission wrote in a press release on Thursday that the solicitation happened without Aguirre's knowledge or consent, but that candidates are responsible for the actions their campaign representatives under local law.
"The fact that two of the City employees who received the e-mail solicitations were Council President Scott Peters and Councilmember Brian Maienschein (both of whom were running against Aguirre in the June 2008 primary election) suggests that the inclusion of City employees was inadvertent," reads the press release.
