: Legal Pad | LACampaign seeks 25,000 L.A. attorneys to feed 1 million
By Jason Siegel
The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank and Horvitz & Levy are trying to get 25,000 attorneys to participate in a two-week food drive to feed one million people locally.
The "Motion to Strike Hunger" campaign will take place from Sept. 15-30, 2008 as part of Hunger Action Month.
Firms can participate in the food drive either by having the non-profit drop off donation boxes and collect them at the end of the month (click here) or by donating money online (click here).
Participation will be tracks so firms and attorneys can compete for the "Most Generous Movant" - determined by donated meals per capita to even the playing field for small law firms.
"Donations are high over the holidays but slump during the rest of the year," Horvitz & Levy attorneys Margaret Thomas and Alicia Pell wrote in a press release. "By rallying the 25,000 attorneys in the County, our intention is to boost the donations during a slower month.
Pell and Thomas are leading the campaign.
Over 1,200 employees at nine firms* are listed as participants in the event on the L.A. Foodbank's Web site (here).
*Latham & Watkins, Liberty Hill Foundation, Tharpe & Howell, Haight Brown, Douglas Emmett, Schaffer Lax, Hamburg Karic, Berger Kahn and Horvitz & Levy.
