What to Make of Mitt Romney?s Supreme Court Line?

By Ashby Jones

ADVERTISEMENTS

romneyNight 3 of the Republican National Convention will likely be remembered largely as the night Sarah Palin made her grand introduction to the American people. But we’ll also remember it for another reason: Mitt Romney’s line about the Supreme Court.

The former Massachusetts Governor had just gotten out of the gate when he threw out this rhetorical question (click here for the YouTube video of the speech):

Let me ask you — what do you think Washington is right now, liberal or conservative?

Is a Supreme Court decision liberal or conservative that awards Guantanamo terrorists with constitution rights? It’s liberal!

We’re not sure what specific decision Romney was referring to, but some commentators apparently feel that Romney was referring not to a specific decision, but making a more general statement about the Court.

For now, let’s make like Mitt and throw some questions your way, LB Readers. What do you make of Romney’s line? Did he mean to paint the entire Court as liberal? And if so, is that assessment fair?
