Genentech is seeking a Senior Patent Counsel for its South San Francisco, Calif., headquarters. Responsibilities:
The Senior Patent Counsel will prepare and file patent applications, with a primary focus on the protection of inventions and patent prosecution. This position will maintain prosecution docket of U.S. and foreign patent applications, with interference opposition practice as it arises with prosecution. The incumbent will develop special expertise in one or more specific areas of technology and provide counsel on patent law issues to scientists conducting research in those areas. This position will also involve opinion work, infringement and validity analysis and licensing support.

Requirements:
The candidate must have a Law degree with at least five years of experience as a patent attorney primarily engaged in patent prosecution, either in a Pharma or Biotech corporate setting or in a law firm servicing such clients. An advanced degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology or Biochemistry is required; a Ph.D. is preferred. Further required is admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
