: Religion ClauseCongressional Candidate On "How Would Jesus Vote?"
By Howard M. Friedman
ADVERTISEMENTS
Bennion Spencer, the Democratic congressional candidate from Utah's 3rd district, has written a book on Jesus and politics that will appear in October. Yesterday's Salt Lake Tribune reported that the book attempts to analyze which policies Jesus would support. At one point, Spencer also suggested that Jesus would vote for him for Congress. Spencer characterized as "sacrilegious" his opponent, John Chaffetz's, support for detention camps for illegal immigrants. Chaffetz said of Spencer: "I don't think it's appropriate to guess which candidate Jesus Christ would support. That's sacrilegious to me."Full post as published by Religion Clause on August 15, 2008 (boomark / email).
