: Legal Pad | LAPlaintiff's lawyers say indictment of L.A. lawyer suspiciously timed after victories against U.S. govt

Plaintiffs' lawyers in the most significant litigation brought against the U.S. government over the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina said the indictment of lead attorney Pierce O'Donnell last month comes suspiciously after recent court victories in their case.
O'Donnell's firm, Los Angeles-based O'Donnell & Associates, is one of 20 representing plaintiffs whose homes or businesses were destroyed following the 2005 hurricane.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California is prosecuting the case, which claims O'Donnell reimbursed law firm employees and others who gave
$26,000 in campaign contributions to a committee supporting an
unnamed presidential candidate. A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office told the NLJ that the case isn't politically motivated.
