On August 1st Abebooks, the Canadian online bookseller aggregator (over 13,500 shops), announced that it was being acquired by Amazon (Amazon press release is here.)

This is an especially interesting development, especially for me as a Canadian who admires Abebooks international reach from Canada. Abebooks is a minority investor in LibraryThing so in a somewhat ironic twist, Amazon acquires a small stake there.
