Paralegal's Husband Needs a Heart

By ParalegalGateway.com

ADVERTISEMENTS

HeartWayne Zimmerman, a retired sergeant from the Arizona Department of Public Service after 28 years and using his traffic expertise for the Yuma County Sheriff's Office for 10 years, is presently at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, awaiting a heart transplant.

Gretchen Thomas, administrative assistant to Sheriff Ralph Ogden, said, "Wayne has been under doctor's care at the clinic and is reported to be doing well. The doctors say that when he gets a heart, he would have to remain there for two and a half weeks, then return to Yuma to recuperate for two months.

"Everyone is keeping a positive outlook and want him to get a heart, soon! Friends and groups in Yuma are banding together to raise money for expenses Wayne and his wife of 36 years, Sherry, are facing," Thomas said. "Sherry is a paralegal at the sheriff's office and has been staying in Phoenix for the past month while Wayne has been hospitalized."

Zimmerman and his wife were unavailable for comment for this story. Among his other duties, Zimmerman has been the administrative manager of property and evidence for the sheriff department since 2003.

There's a Wayne Zimmerman Benefit Raffle under way, sponsored by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office League of Volunteer Employees, a nonprofit organization.

Tickets are $10 each or four for $35 for an opportunity to win the first prize: a $600 gift certificate from Sprague's Sports.

"That will be from the first ticket drawn at 5 p.m. Sept. 2, at the sheriff's office, 160 S. 3rd Ave.," Thomas said.

"The second ticket will be a gift bag, valued at $300, and the third prize is a $200 gift bag. The winner does not need to be present to win," she said.

The gift bags contain numerous items, gift certificates for different things from Yuma businesses. Among items are lube-oil change and 15-point inspection; two rounds of 18 holes with golf cart; restaurant dinners; spa services; automotive gifts; and floral items. There's even a $60 gas card in one of the gift bags.

Checks are to be made payable to SOLVE and brought to or mailed to the sheriff's office.

The Yuma Jaycees Foundation has already contributed $5,000 to the SOLVE account for Zimmerman, Thomas said. (Source>>>)
