: ACS BlogVideo Shows Guantanamo Detainee Under Interrogation
Lawyers for a Canadian detainee at Guantanamo Bay today released video of the then 16-year-old-prisoner during an interrogation at the Cuban prison. Media reports say the video is the first to show interrogations at the U.S. military compound. The video, available on the Internet, shows Omar Khadr, pleading with an interrogator for help and revealing wounds on his chest and back. Khadr’s lawyers maintain he was tortured at Guantanamo Bay and the military detention center in Afghanistan. The New York Times reported that Amnesty International and Canadian human rights groups are pressing the Canadian government to call for Khadr’s release. Khadr was captured in Afghanistan in July 2002 during a battle and accused of killing a United States solider. A panel discussion, “Ensuring Access to Justice for Detainees in the ‘War on Terror,’” from the 2008 ACS National Convention is available here.
