: Legal Pad | LAState high court will rule on constitutionality of Jessica's Law
By Jason Siegel
The California Supreme Court will rule on the constitutionality of Jessica's Law yesterday, the Metropolitan News-Enterprise.
The defendant in People v. McKee was involuntarily committed to the custody of the State Department of Mental Health for an indeterminate term.
Jessica's Law, passed by voters in 2006, allows sexually violent predators to be held until it can be proved that the predator doesn't suffer from a mental illness that predisposes a person to sex crimes, MetNews reported.
Previously, sexually violent predators who completed their sentences could only be recommitted every two years.
