By Anne Skove, Esq.
It's like The Full Monty (only with women and courthouses). A bridge club from Indiana had a novel idea when county commissioners voted to demolish the courthouse: pose nude (sorta) for a fund-raising calendar.
They are the Courthouse Calendar Girls of Farmland, Indiana, and they're on a mission to save Indiana's historic courthouses. The "girls" range in age from 77 to 94.
For obvious reasons, we've always enjoyed Agatha Christie's sentiment that "an archaeologist is the best husband any woman can have. The older she gets the more interested he is in her."
Larry Francer of Randolph County, Indiana, had a similar quote: "A historic building is like a beautiful older woman, created with love and etched with memories derived from a lifetime; it is a reminder to all who see her, love her and have learned from her that the years have only polished her beauty and worth, not diminished it."
See Farmland's Preservation Rock Stars Hit Ohio, Cynthia Aukerman, Winchester News-Gazette (June 30, 2008), and Courthouse Calendar Girls Take Cause to Statehouse, WTHR-13 (January 22, 2008).
