: Appellate Law and PracticeOpen letter to Mr. R. Kelly
By S. COTUS
Dear Mr. Kelly:
By the way, can I call you ?R?? Sort of like a Pirate. You know, ?Arrghh.. "? That sounds much cooler. Anyway, I am glad that things worked out for you in your trial. It was touch and go there for a minute. I also know that as celebrity acquitted defendants go, you are a lot nicer a person than OJ, or that Baretta guy.
But, I would like to ask you for something. Can you please take your wealth and talent together with your experience in this area and use it for good? Perhaps you want to make a big-ass contribution to the ACLU, and urge all your famous friends (and wanna-bes) to publicly do so as well. (Unlike other contributions, a loud and noisy contribution to the ACLU is a good thing, as it sends a message to others that you are unashamed and unapologetic about civil rights.) Or, maybe you could set up a foundation that provides grant money to study wrongful indictments. Anyway, even though I am sure you owe your lawyer a good chunk of change, after paying them (be sure to settle your outstanding balances by the end of the week), you can ask them about some good causes.
Thanks and best wishes.
