Digital Disaster Or Soft Serve Distress? You Be The Judge.

Amazon_logo On the one hand I think this is shocking like most Americans, but at the same time I am not sure why it should be considered all that unusual.  But, as we all have heard, Amazon.Com's Website went down for 2 hours.  Apparently, the company's retail Web site shut down, giving an error code to anyone visiting it.

Let us face facts.  This is not on the level of Dairy Queen running out of soft serve.  I had that happen to me once.  Now that was a disaster.  How can we possibly survive with out that scumpdillyishusness!!

Obviously, this is bad news for Amazon.Com.  It has been known as a very dependable service.  More importantly, however, it is a $19 billion business that derives most or all of its revenue from the Internet.  In April alone more than 58 million visitors went to the website.  (A few more than visit this website).  Going black and then coming back at only 60% capacity a couple of hours later had to be very expensive for Amazon.  It at least delayed the money they would make.

Look, disruptions are never pleasant.  But, the truth of the matter is that they happen to bricks andIcecreamconea_2 mortar businesses all of the time.  I went to our local movie theater once and the electricity went off and we had to leave in the middle of the movie.  I hurricane hit our coast and all of the gas stations in my area closed down.  (Yeah, 70 miles from the coast, I could not figure that one out either).  Then, there is that ever lovin' Dairy Queen disaster I mentioned earlier.  OMG!  HOW COULD SOME DWEEBY TEENAGER FORGET TO FILL THE SOFT SERVE FREEZER WITH MILK WHEN IT WAS GETTING LOW!!!  THE IMBECILE!!!!  THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER DAIRY QUEEN FOR MILES!!!!!!  But, I digress.

My point is that a website going down is not good for business.  Amazon will likely pay a price for allowing this to happen.  LIKE I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT DAIRY QUEEN STORE AGAIN!!  But, it hardly falls in the category of a digital disaster.  It certainly does not deserve all of this press -- THAT DAIRY QUEEN SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED BECAUSE OF THE SOFT SERVE DISTRESS IT CAUSED ME!!

Now, if you will excuse me.  I need to go get me a di'cone.
