UK LAW: UK Law Librarian Winner in National Photo Contest (from UK RSS News)

By Michael Stevens

ADVERTISEMENTS

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 29, 2008) ? University of Kentucky law reference librarian Ryan Valentin recently was named the winner in two categories of this year's American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) "Day in the Life of the Law Library Community" photo contest.

During the month of February each year, AALL members take a wide range of photographs of law librarians working, meeting, teaching and doing all that law librarians do in a given day or week. This year, nearly 50 AALL members from 35 different law libraries across the country submitted more than 125 photos to the contest.
Valentin took first place in two of the seven categories ? ?Librarians as Expert Researchers? and ?Librarians as Trailblazers in New Technologies.? His pictures will be framed and on display at the AALL annual meeting this July, in Portland, Ore. His photographs also will appear in the organization's monthly magazine Spectrum this December.
"The University of Kentucky is striving to become a Top 20 institution by 2020. Every opportunity we have to promote the University of Kentucky, no matter how great or small, will help us overcome adversity and realize our collective vision," says Valentin, who works at the Alvin E. Evans Library at UK College of Law. "As a member of the University of Kentucky community, I am interested in and feel a duty to engage in activities that will raise the profile of the university and bring us closer to this goal."
Valentin is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. A law reference librarian with the UK Libraries system, he holds a bachelor's degree from University of Utah, a juris doctor from the University of Oregon, and a master's degree in library and information science from Florida State University.
The AALL was founded in 1906 to promote and enhance the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities, to foster the profession of law librarianship, and to provide leadership in the field of legal information. Currently with more than 5,000 members, the association represents law librarians and related professionals who are affiliated with a wide range of institutions within the law community.
