Grades.

By Steve Pirates

ADVERTISEMENTS

Today is G-Day. Grades will come out in 20 minutes. I have to admit that I am scared crapless. Not because I feel that I did poorly, but because in law school there’s really almost no way to tell. No matter how well you did on a final, if other people did better, then you did poorly. The miracle of curves right?

This morning I had a nightmare that my grades came out and that my overall GPA plummeted to a 77 (we’re on a 50-95 point scale). Now, a 77 is not academic probation, so even in my dream I was relieved by that. Also, I knew it was a dream when it was happening because one of my class scores was a 6… again on a 50-95 point scale. But still, I woke up not feeling good about the big reveal. Every moment that ticks down to the unveiling of our grades gets harder and harder as I start thinking about what these grades mean. These grades will determine whether I graded onto law review… or not (I was at the cutoff line exactly after the first semester). These grades will determine who will want to meet with me at OCI. These grades will determine the sort of opportunities that will be available to me next year. All in all it’s not a fun thing to consider.

Today after Negotiations, I went to the driving range with my good buddy Greg and thwacked about 200 balls overall. I was hoping to kill time so that I wouldn’t have to think about grades. Unfortunately I’m home slightly before they come out. I think I’m going to fix myself a drink and brace myself. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I wonder if it’s too late to use the SECRET to change my grades to straight 95s. I think I’ll try that!
