: Legal Theory BlogLauritch on Perceptions & Consent in Genetic Testing
By Lawrence Solum
Melissa Lauritch (Marquette University Law School) has posted Perceptions of Genetic Testing and Implications for Informed Consent on SSRN. Here is the abstract:
Genetic testing is becoming more and more common to identify diseases in young children, and there is a lack of survey research regarding perceptions of genetic testing. This study aims to identify what information is important to make an informed choice about voluntary genetic testing for children and what is the perceived duty of physicians to their patients after genetic testing results are obtained. The implications for such research is to help inform physicians about the type of information individuals expect to see in a consent form for genetic testing of their children, and help inform physicians about their perceived ongoing duty to these patients.
