Honda recalls Acura RLs because of fire hazard

Power steering fluid leak can cause under-hood fire

On December 19, 2007, American Honda Motor Company recalled about 43,000 Acura RL?s from the 2005 through 2008 model years because the power steering hose can prematurely deteriorate. This can cause the hose to crack, resulting in potential leakage of power steering fluid.

If power steering fluid leaks onto a hot catalytic converter, it will generate smoke and could lead to an under-hood fire. Honda dealers will install a new power steering hose in the recalled vehicles.

Owners may contact Honda at 800-382-2238 for more information about recalled Acuras. For more information, customers may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration?s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or visit safercar.gov.
