Thanksgiving Ideas for Improvement

By attorneydavid

ADVERTISEMENTS
Headed home for Thanksgiving. Mother was out of town with dad visiting her mother who needed some assistance. Had cold Corky's turkey and a few string beans. The rest of the family had some storebought pie which I skipped as being insufficiently tempting for breaking the diet.

Then I went home (across the street from grandmother's house) and had a porterhouse blackened in a cast iron skillet with Hoisin sauce. (I will post my steak recipe one day).
Spent most of the weekend enjoying the TIVO which my parents have surprising started watching good shows like House and Grey's Anatomy.

While I could definitely use a vacation, I feel that Thanksgiving is a bit too much at this point. Years of a laborious holiday season and advanced age has gotten us to the Corky's turkey which while quite good for turkey is still turkey with that off turkey taste and stringy dry texture.

So my proposal is to move Thanksgiving to the Sunday after the Fourth and take the whole week off. Thanksgiving is afterall the American holiday. Why should we compete with Christmas. Make it patriot week and take the entire week off. I don't know about you but it really starts dragging around June with just a few puny long weekends.

Give patriotic gifts like pies, flags, or guns.

I know the purists will scream, but this would lead to a much improved cultural mileu and stop the silly black friday mob scenes.
