L.A. judge bars D.A.'s office from appeal of murder case

By Jason Siegel

ADVERTISEMENTS

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Ryan removed the entire district attorney's office from an appeal by a survivor of domestic violence, imprisoned for arranging the murder of her abusive boyfriend in 1982, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Attorneys for the defendant claim county prosecutors didn't live up to their 2005 agreement to support her release. The D.A.'s office says that they made an offer to plead to a lesser charge, but pulled the offer once they learned more about the case.

Ryan found that the D.A.'s office couldn't fairly cross-examine their own bosses and gave the case to the state attorney general's office.
