On March 17, 2008, MEGA Brands America Inc. recalled about 1.1 million of its Magtastik and Magnetix Jr. Pre-school Magnetic Toys because of an intestinal perforation hazard. On the same day, the company also recalled about 1.3 million MagnaMan Magnetic Toy Figures for the same reason.

Some of the toys involved in the recall were sent to consumers in 2006 and 2007 as replacement toys for recalled Magnetix building sets.

The MEGA Brands recall was initiated because small magnets inside the toys can detach, which can pose an aspiration or intestinal perforation hazard if they are swallowed. If more than one magnet is swallowed, they can attract each other and cause potentially fatal intestinal damage.

MEGA Brands has received 44 reports of magnets coming loose from the 2.4 million toys included in the recall.

These recalled magnetic toys were sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, K-Mart and other toy stores nationwide from January 2005 through December 2007 for between $10 and $40.

Model numbers for recalled MagnaMan Magnetic Toy Figures are printed on the front of the product?s packaging. Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, K-Mart and other toy stores sold the recalled products nationwide from January 2005 through December 2007 for $10.

Consumers who own any of the recalled toys should immediately stop using them and return them to MEGA Brands for a free replacement.
