Consumer Law
: Caveat EmptorJob opening: associate editor
By Sam Glover
We are looking for an associate editor. Since all three of the current writers are also full-time attorneys, we could use a bit of help keeping the news and commentary flowing.
This is a paid position. You won’t get rich, but you will gain valuable experience and have the chance to hobnob with the authors, who are blogging stars, obviously.
What we are looking for
First, we are not looking for a lawyer. Yes, we may have to change the blog’s tag line, but we would prefer someone who can write to someone who tends to use legal jargon and capitalize excessively. That said, lawyers and law students are welcome to apply if they remember how to speak English.
We are looking for someone who understands how to write for a blog, i.e., someone who is (or can be) a strong writer, smart, concise, and witty. In short, someone with experience as a journalist, columnist, or a blogger.
If you don’t know what an RSS reader is and wouldn’t recognize an HTML tag if it showed up in your Alpha-Bits, fear not! You can learn on the job (and there is not much to learn). But if you don’t have a broadband connection and a computer of your own, you are probably not the right person for this job.
It will help if you live in Minnesota, since meeting face-to-face is nice every now and then, but we will definitely consider applicants from other states and throw in a cheap web cam to sweeten the deal, if necessary.
Expectations
You will be responsible for 2-3 posts per weekday, preferably before noon (CST). Posts should focus on consumer news, with a focus on legal and political news. Posts should contain original commentary and content as much as possible, but should follow current events and developments in law and politics, as well.
How to apply
Send an e-mail telling us why you want the job, with a resume or CV and two or three writing samples. Writing samples should be in the form of links to blog posts or news articles (that you wrote), or short samples of journalistic writing from some other source.
There is no deadline; we will hire when we find the right person.
