Mikkeller Bar
So I start my afternoon at Mikkeler Bar.

I decide to start light and opt for 2/3 of Henry and Sally Pale Ale (4.5%). This is a light straw coloured beer with a nice grapefruit tang and solid hop hit. A very good intro beer. Price £5 . You would have thought they could do this one for that price for the pint really.

Next up, as Rick Astley is a partner in this bar, let’s drink something with his name on it. Rick’s Brown (5.5%). Opted for a half. Earthy, malty, and oddly not unlike Brewdog Nanny State in taste. Price £3.10

So, felt a need for something fresh. ThaIPA clearly caught the eye. An IPA with passionfruit, lime, coconut and, of course, lactose. £5.90 for a half of this. 7.1% abv, but this is really nice. This should be compulsory if sat by a pool during summer. Good alternative to a GnT actually.

And to finish off here, we bring out the big guns. Angry Chair Barrel Aged El Cicuy. An 11% barrel aged imperial stout with peppers and cacao. Holy fuck. That’s good. Serious chilli hit, this is hot. BUT it is balanced out (the chilli hit dissipates as go on) by a big choc hit too. Imagine a hot chocolate with some chilli left to go cold. Very good. Thanks also to the lovely lady behind the bar who recommended this as their best imperial on tap. Fine recommendation.

Goose Island Brewpub
Next up an quick walk down the road to the Goose.

I decide to go start off here with their on premise brewed collab with Redchurch. The Dubbel. £6 for 2/3. This comes in at 6.7%. Has that raisen you expect to get from a good Dubbel. Its nice, but not wow.

I was now pushed for time – too much reading. So I decided to finish off with a Restrictor DIPA. £6.20 for 2/3 of this 7.4%-er. Drinking this I was remembering my first experience of Americans making decent beer was a Chicago trip in 2000 and tasting Goose Island. Anyway this is what we now call west coast style but was just THE style when first went to the states. Pretty good.
