By admin
In a recently released study conducted by Genevieve Pham-Kanter, PhD , an assistant professor in Drexel?s Dornsife School of Public Health, 65% of patients visited a physician within the last year who had received payments or gifts from pharmaceutical or medical device companies; yet only 5 percent of those surveyed knew that their doctor had received such payments. These results were the result of a cross-sectional survey conducted in late September and early October 2014.
Pham-Kanter said:
These findings tell us that if you thought that your doctor was not receiving any money from industry, you’re most likely mistaken. Patients should be aware of the incentives that their physicians face that may lead them to not always act in their patients? best interest. And the more informed patients are about their providers and options for care, the better decisions they can make.
According to ProPublica’s “Dollars for Docs” data, Genentech leads the industry in payments in the amount of $727 million.
Nolan Auerbach & White represented a courageous whistleblower in a successful False Claims Act case against Genentech in 2016. More information for potential pharmaceutical fraud whistleblowers is located at our main website.
