Before You Make a Virginia Disability Claim, Ensure Your Doctor is On Your Side

By Ben Glass

My doctor won't support my disability claim! Now what?

I often hear this same question from people regarding their disability claims. These individuals want to know what they should do if their doctor won't write in their medical records that they support the disability. This issue is very important and one that will seriously impact your case.

Getting your doctor's support is crucial.

One of the main components of a successful Virginia disability claim is your doctor's support. Proving a disability is not easy and you need to make sure that your physician is on your side. You do not want to quit working before you know where your doctor stands. That will only compound your problems.

Be proactive.
If you strongly feel that you cannot work, but your medical provider won't back up your disability claim, there are a couple of things that you can do. For example:

  1. Get a second (or third) opinion. You owe it to yourself and your family to talk with another doctor.
  2. Find a doctor who is not as busy. The problem you are having with your current physician may have more to do with his or her schedule than your condition.
