: Legal Pad | LAAppeals court to review decision on Riverside County judicial policy
By Jason Siegel
The state Supreme Court asked an appeals court to review the decision upholding Riverside County's judicial policy of keeping backlogged criminal cases out of family law and probate courts, the Press-Enterprise reported. At issue is whether the panel of judges who made the ruling were properly assigned. The ruling could be tossed if 4th Circuit Court of Appeal rules that they weren't. Meanwhile, the high court has taken the ruling out of publication while it's being reviewed. The case wasn't reviewed by judges in Riverside, where there is one of the worse case to judge ratios, because of a conflict of interest. It was
assigned by California Chief Justice Ronald George to Orange County, but by the time the case was heard, two of the judges assigned by George were replaced due to administrative changes, the Press-Enterprise reported.
