Zimmer Durom Cup Lawsuits Continue To Grow And Some Ordered To Mediation For Settlement

By M. Brandon Smith

ADVERTISEMENTS

Both hips and knees are critical to every day movements. That is why those who are experience hip and knee problems turn to implants to solve their health issues. Not all implants, however, function effectively. In fact, there have been lawsuits filed by individuals against Zimmer for problems with their implants. You might be wondering whether this problem is widespread?

A number of plaintiffs are filing Zimmer Durom Cup lawsuits based on problems with hip and knee implants. On July 22, 2008, Zimmer suspended sales of their Durom Cup hip implants The evidence reveals, however, that Zimmer's Durom Cup hip implants experienced issues before that date.

In fact, in April, Lawrence D. Dorr, MD, an orthopedic surgeon who is the medical director of the Dorr Institute for Arthritis Research and Education in California, wrote that:
'This failure rate has occurred within the first two years. In the first year the x-rays looked perfect. We have revised four that did not have any radiolucent lines or migration (and John Moreland revised one). These early cups fooled us, but the symptoms were so classic for a loose implant that we operated the patients. When we hit on the edge of the cup it would just pop free. As time goes by the cups begin developing radiolucent lines. We now have one cup at two years that has actually migrated a short distance. It has tilted into varus. We do not believe the fixation surface is good on these cups. Also there is a circular cutting surface on the periphery of the cup that we believe prevents the cup from fully seating. We stopped using the cup after the first revisions.'

Additionally, a class action has recently been filed in Indiana on behalf of shareholders of Zimmer stock.

Implants can be very helpful if they function properly. If implants don't work properly, however, they can be very detrimental. People want to solve their problems with implants, they don't want to have additional problems. If you have experienced additional problems as a result of the Zimmer Durom Cup Implants you deserve to be compensated. For some of the Zimmer Durom Cup Lawsuits filed there are standing orders for these cases to be mediated by all parties involved as soon as possible.

If you have questions about your hip implant or hip implant claim let us know. As we represent numerous hip implant recall patients, I am certain we can help answer any questions you may have.
