: Atlanta Personal Injury LawyerTriad Recall Linked To Bacillus Cereus
By M. Brandon Smith
MANY LOTS of Alcohol Prep Pads, Alcohol Swabs or Alcohol Swabsticks, manufactured by Triad Group, and sold under several private labels, were recently recalled because they may be contaminated with bacteria called Bacillus cereus.
The use of these contaminated products can lead to life threatening infection. Particularly at risk are those people that have a suppressed immune system.
The affected items can be identified by 'Triad Group,' listed as the manufacturer or by the following third party names – Boca/UltiletCardinal Health, CVS, Conzellin, Moore Medical, PSS Select and Walgreens.
The recalled Triad products containing Bacillus cereus were distributed in the United States, Canada and Europe.
For more information, call Triad Group at 262.538.2900. Or refer to the FDA Web site.
Parent's File Suit Blaming Son's death on contaminated alcohol pads
Harrison Kothari, 2, was recovering after undergoing a procedure to remove a benign cyst. Only he developed a fatal case of bacterial meningitis.
His death remained a mystery when the hospital was unable to tell his parents how he got the rare bacteria, or what had caused it. That is, until his family discovered the sterile alcohol pads they had used on their son had been recalled.
The family is now suing Triad Group, the largest makers of those pads, claiming gross negligence. The Kotharis have no direct evidence the swabs used during their son's procedure were contaminated but believe they could have been because the recall went out just a month after Harrison died.
Triad said it knows of only one report of potential contamination in hundreds of millions of products sold.
To make matters worse, government documents show that federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspectors knew about problems with contamination and sterilization at a plant run by the Triad Group of Hartland, Wis., as early as July 2009.
