Weeds? Guillermo Diaz to Play Paralegal In Shonda Rhimes Pilot

With so much talk surrounding the premiere of Shonda Rhimes’ new exotic doctor show Off The Map, most have lost sight of her other project in development. The still-untitled drama follows a fixer for hire played by Kerry Washington. It’s based on the life of crisis management consultant Judy Smith, a PR heavyweight who’s worked with the likes of Marion Barry and Monica Lewinsky. ABC is particularly excited about this offering, but as of now, it’s still in the pilot stages.

According to Deadline, the show is making progress though. Producers have hired Guillermo Diaz to play one of the principal supporting characters. He’ll play a paralegal working in the main character’s firm that doubles as an expect hacker. He’s fiercely loyal and willing to get his hands dirty whenever his boss asks. Mixing things up was never a problem for his character on Weeds, so I definitely buy this casting.

Forget Grey’s Anatomy: The Jungle, this is where Rhimes should be focusing her efforts. With an effective script and a cast that comes together, this could be one of the more watchable new fall offerings. Let’s hope the pilot shows promise and ABC decides to order a full season. Crisis management is a fast-moving and fascinating field, and the mere format itself should lend itself to a host of memorable guesting roles.
