: A Public Defender's Life in Alaska

So, sometimes you just have to fight like a cornered badger. I can't save the world. I can't stop the People from allowing the Courts and Legislatures from taking their rights a little at a time. I can't prevent all gross injustice. But what I can do is fight like a cornered badger when I have to. I won't say too much. But I will say that the Court found the defense arguments "compelling" and the State's arguments "troubling". As a result she VACATED Mr. Eacker's conviction for FIRST DEGREE MURDER and ordered a NEW TRIAL! I won't speak more about it or speak for the Court. However, if I was a judge, I would use such judicial language to say "the DA is a lying sack of shit who cheated and lied". Of course that is my language. I have always believed that Mr. Eacker was innocent. And I look forward to trying this case again. Perhaps this time the DA won't withhold exculpatory DNA evidence.
