: Mike Conaway's BlogFarm Bill on President’s Desk
Yesterday, by a bipartisan vote of 318 to 106, more than the two-thirds margin necessary to override a potential Presidential veto, the House passed the 2007 Farm Bill. The Senate, this afternoon passed the conference report, 81-15, also by a margin well above the two-thirds majority needed to override a Presidential veto. The legislation is now headed to the President?s desk for action. In the event the President opts to veto the legislation versus signing it into law, a veto override vote will be held in both chambers, hopefully before Memorial Day. It is my full expectation that any veto will be overridden and the legislation that passed both chambers this week will become law.
Following House passage yesterday I made the comment regarding the critical importance of this legislation stating that it has effects that reach far and touch many. The Farm Bill has an impact on every single American and as such, I have included a summary of various titles and provisions within the legislation.
