: Greensboro Personal Injury LawyerUPDATE: Amtrak Accident in Mebane, North Carolina
By Pierce Egerton
On May 13, 2010 I blogged about a collision between an Amtrak passenger train and a tractor-trailer that injured several commuters.
Staff writers at news-record.com are now reporting that 12 passengers (from a total of 36) and a single crew member (out of four) were injured and transported to area hospitals. Miraculously, none of the injuries sustained were life-threatening and as of Thursday night, 11 of the 12 injured commuters had been released from hospital care.
The collision spilled diesel fuel and ignited a small fire on the locomotive and one of the coach cars. Several other cars were derailed. Sondra Artis from the communications office in the Department of Transportation's rail division said, 'We were extremely fortunate there were no fatalities in this accident,' in an article from news-record.com.
The Piedmont Triad community certainly celebrates the fact that this accident did not result in any deaths; however, our thoughts remain with the passengers and worker who were injured during the accident.
