The Illinois Supreme Court has struck down a legal precedent that prevented jurors in asbestos-related cases from hearing evidence about alternative sources of asbestos exposure. In a 5-1 decision, the court found that the 1987 Lipke rule unfairly favored plaintiffs. Defendants in asbestos cases had complained that the rule wrongly forced them to settle claims. The case is Clarence Nolan vs. Weil-McLain.
