By Beth Janicek
Car Accidents and July Fourth weekend go hand and hand. It is known as one of the deadliest in terms of car accidents. Some cities fare better than others in terms of collisions and how often they happen. Allstate has ranked car safety to national accident rates. In the United States , the average driver has a collision every 10 years. In Sioux Falls , SD , the average driver has a car accident every 14.6 years.
Allstate has also listed the safest urban areas. In cities with more that 500,000 residents, Detroit 's accident rates are 20% below the national average. In cities with more than one million residents, Phoenix has the safest drivers, which is about even with the national average. If you are driving in Houston , San Antonio or Dallas this weekend, be careful, you are 24% to 28% more likely to have an accident compared to the national average.
