More than four million baby floats are being voluntarily recalled by Aqua-Leisure Industries in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) because the leg straps in the seat of the float can tear, causing the children to unexpectedly fall into or under the water, posing a risk of drowning.
While there have been no reports of injury, there have been 31 incidents of the floats tearing, causing children to fall into or under the water.
Inez Tenenbaum, chairman of the CPSC, recently spoke on 'The Early Show' about the recalls. 'Parents need to understand, if you have a plastic float, the child's weight really cannot be handled by these simple plastic floats.'
Children should never be left unsupervised, and parents need to be very careful when using any type of float with children.
Parents should stop using the recalled baby floats and contact Aqua-Leisure for a refund.

Baby Cribs Recalled
The CPSC is also recalling more than 400,000 Simplicity Baby Cribs because the crib's hardware can break, causing the drop side to detach. When the drop side is detached, it creates a space between the side and the mattress that can cause the child to become entrapped which can lead to suffocation.
According to Tenenbaum, the Simplicity brand crib has killed 10 children.
'In total, two million of these cribs have been recalled in the past few years because the company changed the hardware, but it never worked,' she said.
An 8-month-old recently suffocated in Texas after becoming wedged between the crib's parts. And the agency is aware of 25 incidents that have involved the drop side detaching from the crib.
While the company is no longer in business, Tenenbaum warns, parents should be aware of their child's baby crib brand and not use any cribs made by Simplicity Inc.
From the CPSC Web site: All drop side cribs with different or 'newer' style plastic hardware from a September 2007 crib recall. This newer style of Simplicity hardware can be identified by a flexible plastic tab at the top of the lower tracks. The recalled model numbers include but may not be limited to: 8050, 8325, 8620, 8745, 8748, 8755, 8756, 8765, 8778, 8810, and 8994, 8995, 8996.' #
