Auto Accident Takes Life Of Popular 15-Year-Old Girl

By Eddie Farah

ADVERTISEMENTS

The community of Jacksonville is grieving the loss of 15-year-old Allison Haramis.

She was killed Friday when the Lexus in which she was a passenger, hit the back of a tow truck on the Buckman Bridge. The driver was her 16-year-old friend, Alexander Lee.

Police report that Lee tried to avoid the traffic stopping in front of him and he swerved to the left to avoid the traffic but hit the back of the tow truck. The teenagers had their seatbelts on. Amazingly, Lee was not seriously injured but the Bolles High School sophomore, Haramis, died at the scene.

More than 1,000 have written in her Facebook and many hearts are broken.

"It has been so hard for this community. I can't even begin to describe the depth of the sorrow and the pain," said Sandy Moyle, Assistant Rector at Bolles to Channel 4. "Allison was just delightful. She had the best smile. She would just radiate."

Funeral services were held Tuesday.

Driving has become increasingly dangerous. Drivers take out their emotions through their cars. And there are more distractions.

In 2008, 37,000 died on the roads, down about nine percent from the year before, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Things can change so suddenly.

Commentary on the www.news4jax.com web site has an interesting insight for each of us. While many were held up waiting in traffic that followed the crash Friday they were angry. But when they found out what happened they had a change of heart.

Debi says, 'I was stuck in traffic for over an hour trying to get past this accident. I was complaining the whole time and now I owe an apology to the family. Obviously my hour in traffic was not the worst tragedy of the day.'

Those are important words to keep in mind next time each of us is stuck in traffic.
