Pepperdine has a video involving Justice Alito.

The video also includes Judge Michael McConnell, a conservative who greatly assisted the career of Barack Obama. McConnell noted of Obama:

"To understand what someone else is trying to say isn't just an editorial skill. It's a life skill.?

IPBiz notes that this might be viewed more as an indictment of the way student-run law reviews are typically managed. A lot of what one reads in supposedly prestigious law reviews is, as Justice Holmes noted, the work of boys.

Separately, one recalls in the first campaign of George Bush in 2000 that much was made of how Bush got along with Democrats in Texas.

One has to distinguish life skills from expediencies.
