Tostada Dinner to Fete Paralegal Politician

The business of politics will be upon the 10th annual Joe T. Ulibarri Tostada dinner on Jan. 19.

State Rep. Dorothy Butcher, D-Pueblo, will be the evening's focus as its roastee at the Latino Chamber Development Corp. Foundation fundraiser. Monies raised go to youth and business scholarships.

Butcher's background offers a wealth of roasting opportunities. She is winding up her third term for House District 46 and vying for the Pueblo County Commission's District 2 seat.

She previously served on the Pueblo City Council and was a financial adviser at U.S. West for 29 years. Butcher has a nursing degree from then-Southern Colorado State College and a paralegal degree from then-University of Southern Colorado.

Butcher has a long history of community service. Among her achievements are being the co-founder of the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation and of EPIC, an organization that provides loans to business owned by women and minorities.

The night's roasting honors will go to Madelyn Bruning, instructor at Pueblo Community College's second-chance business school; attorney Nick Gradisar; Rod Slyhoff, president of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce; Juan Espinosa, night city editor and columnist at The Pueblo Chieftain; social worker Margie Abeyta; Dan Toussaint, business manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; and Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, D-Denver.

Retired Municipal Judge Joe Ulibarri will serve as emcee.

Cocktails at 6 p.m. precede the 7 p.m. dinner; roasting follows at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person; corporate tables are available. For reservations, call the Latino chamber at 542-5513. (Source)
