The Post at Which I Impart My Best "Cooking" Advice

By Lynne DeVenny

ADVERTISEMENTS
Nope, those are not unnecessary quotation marks. The lovely Amanda Hazel, blogger at Purple Paralegal (http://purpleparalegal.blogspot.com/), posted "Off Topic: Cooking" this week, sharing with her readers her desire to learn to cook (although she's a great baker, and I like cookies and pies better than entrees anyway).

She opted to start with a crock pot, which is always a great choice for the uninspired domestic goddesses amongst us. I wanted to get her slow cooking off to a great start, so I shared a recipe via a comment at the post:

Oh, Lord, Sweetie - *I* use a crock pot, which definitely means it is not cooking. But I will share with you my Most Awesome Roast Beast Recipe:

(1) Ridiculously cheap rump roast
(1) Package onion soup mix
(1) 12-oz dark soda (I likes Dr. Pepper)

Plunk meat in crock pot. Pop top off canned soda and pour it all in there. Empty entire onion soup mix on top of meat.

Now here's the key part: Turn on the dang crock pot. If you don't, you will have to take the kiddies to McDonald's. Cook on low for 4-6 hours (or longer if you've forgotten about it - it doesn't seem to matter). Your house will smell so good that no one will notice that your cat has started using your carpet instead of the litter box.

Okay, folks, move on, there's nothing left to see here, that is the extent of my cooking" virtuosity...

Got a fave crock pot recipe for those of us who know we're not ever gonna be domestic goddesses, but would settle for not burning down the house and lowering the number of fast food bags we bring home each week? (I like recipes with less than four ingredients, and less than four lines of instructions...) Send the link to your fave crock pot recipe to lynne.devenny@gmail.com, and if I get enough for a post (at least 5 or 6), I'll share them via a post, "Paralegals Get Crocking" (I can hear your groans, but I'm here all week and I hate veal.)

I'll be adding this free Crock-Pot® Slow Cooker Recipe Finder to my iPhat, a/k/a iPad.

I found this highly under viewed "Video of the Year," and was like, "Dude, how did you get inside my head?"
